Rental of water meters, electricity and gas ends up next May |

Consumers will not pay the rent of water, electricity or gas meters from 26 May.
At that time also enters into force the prohibition of bimonthly or quarterly charge for these services, according to a law that was recently published in the Official Publication.
The bill for all those public services will necessarily be sent monthly, avoiding the accumulation of two or three months of billing, as it has been published recently in the official gazette and amending a decree of 1996 on the 'public utilities'. The new legislation is to consider the fixed telephone as an essential service and this figure also includes mobile communications and the Internet, as well as natural gas, postal services, management of household waste and collecting and treating sewage. The law puts an end to charging for the rental of meters made by companies that make the water supply, gas and electricity. Also the deadline for the suspension of service provision, for lack of payment, shall be ten days after the failure, two days longer than anticipated in the current regime. |
